Beech Sustainability

The European Steamed Beech that we offer comes from Germany, where all the forests have been managed according to sustainable forestry practices that were put in place hundreds of years ago, and updated over time.

Beech trees in Germany are harvested for lumber after approximately 80-160 years.  They are felled only in winter and then sawn to lumber. The fresh sawn lumber is dead packed and steamed within 48 hours of milling. After steaming, the lumber is placed on sticks and allowed to air-dry slowly, before kilning. After being carefully kiln-dried, fully equalized and conditioned, the lumber is parallel edged and graded to the North American rules of standard inspection prior to export to us in the USA.

We obtain our beech only from a select number of sawmills. With this connection, we are absolutely sure that you will find this lumber to be beautifully manufactured and on grade.

Our supply of European Beech is consistent, reliable and available right now!

It is a versatile lumber, similar in characteristics to hard maple.

European Beech machines well, stains well, is resilient and can be used in a variety of indoor applications such as; moldings, kitchen cabinetry, flooring, stair components, furniture, cutting boards, salt and pepper mills, turnings and toys just to name just a few.

We believe that Lightly Steamed Beech has a very pleasant natural color. However, it can be stained to represent other species such as cherry, mahogany and walnut. It can be lightly stained to another color allowing the grain to show through for a modern contemporary design effect.
